Song for Charity

This song was written by Mike Maranski following the passage of Hurricane Ivan on September 07th, 2004.

"That's IVAN"....

1. When Ivan came passin tru

He took our houses old and new

It didn’t matter whether you were rich or poor

He blew down all our trees

Our corn and our pigeon peas

And left us brokes when he could take no more

Chorus:

So bredren walk with me

Let we plant our breadfruit trees

We’ll work the land and then we’ll fish the sea

2. Way back in fifty five

    Janet taught us to survive

Her mighty winds didn’t keep us down for long

If we got d dreadful feelings

We just gazed up at our ceiling

With the stars above dancing to our songs

Chorus:

So Jesus walk with me

Let we plant our paw paw trees

We’ll raise some cane, we’ll fish upon the sea

3. Soon we got the word

They let go the jail birds

Airport closed, thousands livin in broke down schools

    People praying for foreign aid

    Children hungry and afraid

And those we entrust, forgot the golden rule

Chorus:

So rasta walk with me

Let we plant our bluggo tree

We’ll raise some crops, we’ll fish upon the sea

4. Don’t be crying a tear or two

    Go cut your calaloo

Fetch d water down by d river bank

Let d man pot boil round

Let we cook our oil down

But before you eat, it’s God you must give thanks

Chorus:

So bredren walk with me

Let we plant our mango trees

We’re raising cane, we’re fishing in the sea

5. There were some that took to lootin so the police they started shootin

Linin up for food and gas till curfew time

But in the end we are joined together

We beat back this nasty weather and in Grenada the sun will always shine

Chorus:

So Jesus walk with me

Let we plant our cocoa trees

We’ll work the land and then we’ll fish the sea

So Grenada walk with me

Let we plant our nutmeg trees

We’ll raise our crops, we’ll fish upon the sea
