Plantation Tour

The adventure at Belmont begins with a visit to the cocoa fermentary where unfolds the captivating story of the transformation of raw cocoa beans into a delicate product that is used for making chocolate. The story is brought to life with the display of several pieces of machinery that are used in the semi-processing and by the demonstration of the traditional method of polishing the bean, by dancin' in old copper pots.

On buying days you can see the actually purchasing of the beans from farmers. But on any day of the week there is one surety ...you will see beans being fermented, dried and then polished. But this story goes beyond the processing of the beans as it allows you to understand the people who cultivate, nurture, maintain, harvest and process the cocoa in order to produce the world's finest tasting chocolate. Complete your experience by sampling Belmont's "cocoa tea" as you allow the fine bouquet of fermenting cocoa beans and the aroma of nutmegs, cloves, bay, pimento and other local spices to permeate your senses.

Together with The Grenada Chocolate Company, we have begun The Grenada Organic Chocolate Project. With this partnership, our pristine naturally maintained farms that include cocoa, vegetables, fruits and spices will all be certified organic. The Grenada Chocolate Company will be producing Certified Organic Fine Dark Chocolate. Our inspection process has begun . . . check back soon for an update.

The excitement continues into the museum where you can get a glimpse into the history, challenges and triumphs of Belmont Estate, its owners and workers . From there you can relax in the sugarcane garden, the ruins of an old sugarcane mill, where towering mahogany trees, tropical flowers, fruit and spice trees, are bursting with color and scents.

To complement the tour visitors are provided with an opportunity to relive some of Grenada's traditional culture such as African drumming and stick-fighting and traditional games.
